Welcome to Sass
The Space Age Sporting Systems (SASS) soccer club joined the Dubbo and District Soccer Association in 1983 when it entered four teams in the competition. Over the years, the club has grown to be recognised as one of the stronger Junior clubs in Dubbo. Our close affiliation with Dubbo Bulls FC provides a clear pathway for our Juniors to progress into the all age mens or womens competition and for those wanting a higher standard of football, the Western Premier League .
When we formed, the only colour not used in Dubbo by any other club was purple, so the purple and white uniform was quickly adopted. Purple soccer shirts were hard to come by and the club was forced to buy heavy-duty cotton soccer jerseys and dye them by hand.
Early sponsors included Blowses' Menswear, Caltex Fuel Depot, Conti's Fruit and Vegetables and Northill Fire Protection. Some followers may remember early club executives Bob Carr, Bruce Buchanan, Peter Gray, Sue and Wayne Howlett, Greg Markwick, Lyn Barnes and Garry Giddings. Phil Osborne and Selwyn Dallinger were long-serving club officials in the 1990s and early 2000's. and more recently the Ambler and Campion families have taken the Club into the digital age.
In 2007, significant fundraising efforts allowed the club to send two teams to Fiji to play in an international competition. Many of these boys had played with SASS for over 10 years. In 2008 the Club had it first full International cap when Adrian Leijer made his debut for the Socceroos. Former SASS players and twin sisters Ashleigh and Nicole Sykes have also represented Australia at international level and in 2012 won the W-League with Canberra United. Both women have captained United and in 2015/16 Ash was named W League player of the season, along with a host of other awards.
By the 2010's SASS regularly has around 25 teams from under-6s to under-17s, with a wide range of the business community helping out with sponsorships and other donations.
